The following Research Activities were undertaken during the term of the Queensland Indigenous Education Consultative Body (QIECB) – 2000 - 2004. They are posted on this site for information.
Within the context of its Strategic Plan (Interim) 2001-2002, the QIECB developed a number of research consultative activities which served to inform its advice to the State Minister for Education and the Commonwealth on six key strategic issues:
- The Completion of Twelve Years of Schooling or its Equivalent
- The Pre Schooling Experience
- Teacher Education
- Standard Australian English and Languages
- Community Capacity Building
- Accountability: Inclusive Assessment, Monitoring and Reporting on Educational Outcomes.
Through an open tender process, suitably qualified and experienced peoples and/ or organisations were engaged by the QIECB to carryout research and consultative activities on its behalf. These researchers were not engaged as consultants and did not provide advice and recommendations to the QIECB on matters relating to the research topics. The QIECB developed its own independent advice and recommendations to the then State Minister for Education and the Commonwealth Minister responsible for Education, based on the information gathered by the researchers.
The QIECB Research activities were conducted in a manner that reflects the essence of the Australian Institute of Aboriginal and Torres Strait islander Studies (AIATSIS) Guidelines for Ethical Research in Indigenous Studies.
The QIECB produced position papers in relation to the research conducted. A copy of the position papers is provided below. Of particular interest is the Practical Guide for Schools: Engaging with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Parent and Communities.
